Beginner Guitar Chords

You want to learn how to play the guitar. You need to learn the chords and common keys. There are three basic chords Major Minor and Dominant Seventh chords. You will have to learn by looking at the fretboard in the beginning but with time will play without looking.

You will need to memorize the chords without looking at the fretboard. Make a game of finding the correct fingering and eventually you will get the feel of your fingers on the fretboard.

The C Major notes are C E and G. The B Major and F Major note are chords. These are the five major chords since they are all major triads on the primary reference chords. They all occur in the open position with the first three frets and the other strings open. They can be linked to other chords creating an enhanced chord or be altered by changing the octave.

The Minor chords are C- CmCmi or Cmin are the same as the major chords but they have a minor third instead of the major third. This makes a different pitch and sound adding the range of chords.

Practice the chords until you can play them without looking at the fretboard. Strum the chords daily and listen to each one as you play it. Learn to tune the chord mentally and make the correcting adjustments each time you hear the chord is off or incorrect.

When you get in tune with the chords you can the progress onto working on your timing and strumming. You will create a pattern for strumming and fingering. You will recognize the different strumming patterns for each chord.

Learning to play the chords will require getting your fingers and hands into shape. At first you may experience cramping due to the unfamiliar way you have to hold your fingers and hands. Exercise your hands and fingers to avoid the painful cramps.
